Kings Pre-Season Update - Game 4

The Los Angeles Kings played their 4th game of Pre-Season hockey last night and came away with a huge win against the Anaheim Ducks.

The most notable thing about this particular game last night was the Kings 5th pick overall in the 2009 entry draft Brayden Schenn, who apparently is pushing hard to make the squad this season. Schenn scored 2 of the 4 goals last night and by all reports I've read this morning, played a very hard 60 minutes. Braydon, along with a couple other young players within the organization are, with incredible playing like last night, making it very tough for the organization to make a decision about the starting roster. This is the first time in a very long time that I can remember a scenario like this in LA. There is a wealth of depth within the Kingdom right now and although Murray says that he has the top 2 or 3 lines set, there are still a couple spots up for grabs. Will Schenn be one of them? Only time will tell.

Another tidbit to note about the game last night is the chemistry being built by the top line of Smyth - Kopitar - Williams. This line last night combined for five points and finished with a plus 6 rating. Pretty impressive. If they continue to gel this well, this line could become a scary trio for any opposition they face.

Finally, I couldn't end the post without speaking about Jonathan Bernier who also is pushing hard to make the lineup. Bernier only allowed one goal last night (and would have stopped that one if he didn't somehow drop his stick), keeping out the other 19 he faced playing very solid game for the entire 60 minutes. It's hard to say what the coaches will do this year with their goalies but this King fan is very excited to know that there is finally a tough decision to make on which goalies to go with. I don't think this has ever happpened.

Oct 3rd and the start of of the regular season for the Kings will be an interesting one and furthermore, I truly believe fans of the LA will finally be rewarded for their unwavering support.
