Before the game last night against the Anaheim Ducks, The Kings were on a 7 game win streak. Yes, you read that right; Seven. I'm shocked as well because the last time this feat has happened, it was 1992 and Wayne Gretzky was King of the Kings. Things certainly have been different since those days, but what's happening in the sunny skies of Los Angeles right now is pretty amazing. It's especially delightful, let me tell you, for anyone who stuck with the Kings after Gretzky did not. After all these years since the early 90's waiting for something to happen with this team, it's quite a relief to finally have hope again. In fact, as the Kings keep surpassing expectations, it's gone beyond hope. It's become an absolute awe.
Watch this video to help you understand what Kings fans must be feeling right now:
At risk of a possible jinx to the team, that video was aired just before the game last night. You're probably expecting me to discuss a loss now, after speaking of jinxes, but that was so not the case. Even though the Sucks (as Kings fans so effectionally call them) came back to tie the game at 4 late in the game, the players for LA kicked into high gear and managed to score two more goals to capture their 8th strait win. That's right, EIGHT. With that, they are making history by tying the longest win streak in club history. Amazing!
And speaking of making history, I just have to mention in closing here that their 5 road wins on their latest trip prior to the last 2 games at home is the FIRST time in club history that they managed such a feat. At risk of sounding like a broken record here... I'm very excited for the final 25 games of this season AND the play offs. This team could go deep... scratch that, WILL go deep. Can you feel it? I know I certainly can.
